THE AGONIST In Brazil: Video Interview, Performance Footage
July 5, 2011On June 12, MetalConerts.net conducted an interview with vocalist Alissa White-Gluz of Montreal, Quebec, Canada's THE AGONIST when the band performed in So Paulo, Brazil. You can now watch the chat below.
When asked about the progress of the songwriting sessions for THE AGONIST's follow-up to 2009's "Lullabies For A Dormant Mind", Alissa said, "We're actually in the studio right now. When we get back from this tour, we're gonna in the studio and I'm gonna be doing my vocals and finishing up some guitar stuff. We have a lot of songs written. I wouldn't say it's heavier or more melodic. I think it sounds more mature. It has the same sort of schizophrenic side that 'Lullabies' has, but it also has some other I guess what you would call classic influences. Like, there's some PANTERA influence, there's some RADIOHEAD influence. I mean, there's a lot of influences that we didn't really have before. But I'm not really sure what it's gonna sound like, because I can really only tell once it's done and I'm in the studio. And I don't even know what I'm gonna do yet, so we'll see. [Laughs]"
"Lullabies For A Dormant Mind" debuted at No. 105 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Produced by Christian Donaldson (CRYPTOPSY, MYTHOSIS),"Lullabies for the Dormant Mind" exposes new facets of the band and touches upon classical, jazz, opera, grindcore, thrash and black metal influences in a complete metal opus. The CD features guest violins by Avi Ludmer (MAHOGANY RUSH),orchestrations by classical pianists Melina Soochan and Jonathan Lefrancois-Leduc (BLACKGUARD) along with many other Montreal-based contributors.
